Canadian Beer League
Canadian Beer League was born from the success of Beer League Hockey Practice. We built a community of grown-ups who wanted to learn and improve their game, and then they wanted somewhere to play that carried that same spirit and camaraderie into a competitive space.
How Does It Work?
Players register as individuals for each season.
Players are provided with jerseys to begin each season that are theirs to keep!
Teams are built as evenly as possible based on skill level and each player is assigned to their team for the season.
Adjustments may be made early in the season for the purpose of achieving league parity. Players who are deemed outside of the parameters skill-wise may be moved to a different division if possible.
Games are played weekly with consistent schedules throughout the regular season as well as playoffs.
Games are officiated by two referees as well as a timekeeper and league convenor.
Stats and standings are tracked throughout the season.

Divisions
We’ve recently expanded some of our markets into divisions, offering options between “House League” and “Select”. We recognize that describing someone who’s “too good” can sometimes be like describing jazz music: It’s hard to describe, but you know it when you hear it. Below should shed some light on what we’re expecting from our participants.
House League - This is not a beginner league. We encourage players who are new to the game to reach a certain ability level through our Beer League Hockey Practice and Shinny programs before joining CBL. Once you’ve got the fundamentals down, you’re ready to join the CBL House League division. Typically someone in House League is going to score in the 50s or 60s in the CBL Player Rating Quiz (see below). Participating in the practices is not a prerequisite. If you learned the game as an adult, or played low level hockey growing up, you’re still likely a good fit.
Select - These players typically score in the 70s on the CBL Player Rating Quiz. If you’re lights-out, crazy-wicked good at hockey you’re not going to be a good fit, but it’s a nice place for those who are more experienced than the House League players, but still aren’t highly-skilled. If you played at a high level growing up, there’s a good chance you’re going to be too good for either division.
