Canadian Beer League Code of Conduct
Our Jam
Canadian Beer League. is committed to providing a safe, fun, and friendly hockey experience for all participants. We are a community built on being cool to each other and enjoying a shared love for the game. This Code of Conduct outlines the expected standards of behavior for every league member. Its purpose is not to restrict the enjoyment of the game, but to ensure that the actions of a few do not spoil the experience for the many. By registering to play in our league, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct at all times. Ya dig?
Section 1: On-Ice Conduct
All players are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike manner and to play with a level of intensity that is appropriate for a non-contact recreational league.
Respect for Opponents: Taunting, threatening, or engaging in personal verbal abuse of an opponent is strictly prohibited. Healthy competition is encouraged; unsportsmanlike behavior is not. Don’t be a friggin’ jerk.
Respect for Teammates: Foster a positive and inclusive atmosphere on your team bench and on the ice. Negative, abusive, or demeaning language towards your own teammates is super whack. You’re literally on the same team. Don’t be a friggin’ jerk.
Friggin’ Chill: Fighting, deliberate attempts to injure, and reckless or dangerous plays (e.g., slew-footing, cross checks, boarding) are super not cool. We’re not afraid to boot people.
Section 2: Respect for Officials and League Staff
Referees and league staff are essential to the operation of our league and must be treated with respect.
Zero Tolerance for Abuse: Any form of abuse towards an official—including verbal threats, intimidation, shouting, or physical contact—is a mega no-no.
Just Deal With It: Officials' decisions are final, and sometimes they’re wrong. Relax. Don’t argue and throw a fit and get all indignant, just be cool and maybe calmly make your case if you think they got a call wrong, but be friendly and chill. If you actually get angry and feel like there’s something beyond an innocent bad call on the ice, please just let your team rep or the league know.
Section 3: Off-Ice Conduct
As a member of Canadian Beer League you are a representative of the league from the moment you arrive at the arena until the moment you leave. Even if you’re not cool enough to be wearing our merch.
Dressing Room Conduct: Maintain a clean and respectful environment in the dressing rooms. Be respectful of the personal space and property of others. The league is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Leave your Rolex in the car, maybe, yeah?
Facility Rules: Adhere to all rules and regulations set by the arena facility. This includes policies on smoking/vaping and any other posted rules. It’s painful to have to include this…
Harassment & Discrimination: The league has a zero-tolerance policy for harassment or discrimination of any kind. This includes comments, jokes, or actions related to a person's race, colour, religion, age, gender identity, sexual orientation, or disability. This sport and this league is for everyone, and you should only be judged on how friendly of a person you are and how much you give a shit about back-checking.
Alcohol & Substance Policy:
The consumption of outside alcohol in non-licensed areas of the facility, including the dressing rooms and parking lot, is strictly prohibited by both league and municipal by-law.
Players may not participate in a game while under the influence of alcohol or any substance that impairs their judgment or physical abilities.
Social Media Policy: Do not use social media to publicly criticize, harass, or threaten other players, officials, or the league itself. Any online conduct deemed detrimental to the league's reputation or the well-being of its members may result in disciplinary action.
Section 4: Disciplinary Process and Consequences
Canadian Beer League will investigate all reported infractions of this Code of Conduct. Disciplinary action will be determined at the sole discretion of the league. Consequences are based on the severity and frequency of the infraction and will be applied fairly and as consistently as possible.
Minor Infractions: (e.g., arguing a call, unsportsmanlike language)
First Offence: Verbal or written warning from the league.
Repeated Offences: Friggin’ quit it already. Please don’t make us kick you out for being a giant pain in the ass.
Major Infractions: (e.g., aggressive verbal abuse of an official, reckless play)
First Offence: At the very least a written warning, and depending on context and circumstance we might just boot you right away.
Repeated Offences: Bye.
Severe Violations: (e.g., fighting, attempt to injure, threats of violence, any form of physical altercation, discriminatory language)
First Offence: You’re almost for sure getting kicked out, but anyone who gets kicked out gets a chance to appeal on a call with the league if they want so you can at least plead your case.
Reporting Incidents:
If you witness or are the subject of a violation of this Code of Conduct, please report the incident in writing to your team rep, ref, coach, or to the league directly within 24 hours. All reports will be handled with discretion.
