organized gameplay without keeping score
No judgement, no egos, no worries
Beer League Shinny carries with it the spirit of Beer League Hockey Practice. No judgement, no egos, no worries, no score keeping... It’s not about the thrill of victory, or the agony of defeat, it’s about moments. The good moments to be celebrated with stick taps, and the bad ones to also be celebrated with stick taps and laughed about on the bench. It’s just nice to get together y’know?
Game action outside of practices
Especially for players who want to get some game action outside of practices, Shinny is a perfect place to hone your craft and gain experience as a player. If you’re not familiar with Shinny (aka “pickup”) it’s very much like pond hockey or street hockey in its loose attitude compared to league games. In most cases there will still be an official on the ice (we call them our Shinny Referinny) who’s there to keep the vibes high and establish that game-like environment.
Make plays, Make friends
We try our best to create groups of similarly-skilled players. Inevitably there is still usually a bit of a disparity, but that’s okay. Less experienced players get a chance to play hard, while more experienced players are expected to adjust their game to the level of competition they’re up against. As Uncle Ben once said, “With great power, comes great responsibility.” The goal is to get out there and have a good skate, make some plays, make some friends, and earn your post-shinny beverages.
